Foundation Awards $50,000 to Welvista
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded $50,000 to Welvista to support the restructuring and revitalizing of its Healthy Smiles Dental Clinics. The Healthy Smiles Dental Clinics, located in Allendale, Dillon, Manning and Summerton, serve thousands of uninsured and underinsured school-age children that do not have a provider for oral health issues. Advance Your Board to the Next Level Workshop
Tuesday, April 12, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Foundation's Carolina Academy for Nonprofits will host a free workshop on board development on Tuesday, April 12. Facilitated by Charles Weathers, this workshop is designed for all nonprofit organizations who are ready to advance their board to the next level.
Applicants may select to participate in Columbia, S.C., at the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina's office or join through video conferencing from Florence, S.C., at the Pee Dee Area Health Education Center or from Greenwood, S.C., at the United Center of Community Care.

Foundation To Host Webinar Series on Diversity
As part of its commitment to diversity, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina will host a three-part webinar series on diversity and inclusion. This free webinar series, spanning three months, is offered through the Foundation's Carolina Academy for Nonprofits. Interested parties may sign up for all three (April 13, May 11, June 8) or select individual sessions.

Part I: A Dialogue in Diversity
Wednesday, April 13, from 2-3 p.m.
Understanding differences among individuals and groups is paramount in achieving the highest level of productivity and pleasure in a job. Understanding diversity and inclusion requires research, discussion and open minds. Participants will engage in thoughtful conversation that challenges their current thinking about people who are different than themselves.

Foundation Joins Other Grantmakers on Capitol Hill
Chester Healthcare Foundation, Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation, J. Marion Sims Foundation, The Duke Endowment and Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina traveled to Washington D.C., to participate in Foundations on the Hill, sponsored by the Council on Foundations and the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, March 8-9, 2011. The group met with staff for Senators DeMint and Graham and Congressmen Clyburn (D-6), Duncan (R-3), Gowdy (R-4), Mulvaney (R-5), Scott (R-1) and Wilson (R-2). Caritas Grant Deadline: April 5
The upcoming Caritas grant deadline is April 5. Caritas grants are for organizations providing outreach services to the poor and marginalized. These are smaller one-year grants designed for organizations with annual budgets of less than $500,000.
Given the current economy, the Foundation will accept Caritas grant applications requesting funding for operating expenses. Caritas grant awards are up to $3,000 and will be awarded twice in 2011.
